I did not search out the medium of collage, it somehow found me after having experimented with different other mediums like gouache, oil/water colors. When I begin a piece, I never know exactly where I’ll go or how I’ll get there. Sometimes I work by starting with an idea, a feeling or image that compels me. Other times I choose as a starting point a special technique, a photo or a color scheme which “speaks” to me.

Hereby I get tremendous inspiration from Oman (the country where I live at the moment) with its culture, colors, nature and people.

I try to capture my feeling in my paintings, the “now”, the emotions and the spirituality. I let intuition and the joy of expressions guides me, as well an innate sense of composition and use of colors; they are an important part of me and of my work. Colors influence my mood, create atmosphere and lift my spirits.

Sometimes I don’t like the result and I’ll revise the collage one or more times until it ‘feels’ good.

I enjoy working with texture by incorporating different textured materials. Another challenge is to “imitate” the texture from manmade subjects, like old walls, tiles, rusty doors, or from nature, like flowing water, surface of sand dunes, wood, rocks, pebbles…
I like using symbols, which brings a spiritual influence into my work, for ex. Spirals, as a symbol for growing, development and endlessness.

Often I do include numbers and letters from different cultural backgrounds (European, Arabic, Chinese, and Hindi). It is not only an aesthetic and exciting enrichment of the whole composition, sometimes I use these elements to guide viewer into a different way of seeing and interpretation of the artwork.
